The Ultima Thule collection was designed in 1968 by legendary Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala. The unique and complicated glass structure is inspired by the melting ice in Lapland.

TAPIO WIRKKALA
Tapio Wirkkala is one of the most famous names in Finnish design. He spent a large part of his career working for Iittala, for which he also designed the iconic Ultima Thule glass collection. However, his brilliant sense of design has also been put to good use when designing Finnish banknotes. He was the artistic director of the University of Arts and Design in Helsinki for many years and his success is confirmed by many awards, such as 6 gold medals from the Triennale in Milan.
