Design: Oiva Toikka
The Whip-Poor-Will bird returns to the Iittala Birds by Toikka permanent collection as a celebration of Oiva Toikka’s imaginative approach to glass art. The delicately shaped bird exudes the lightness and natural elegance that is typical of this iconic series.
Each piece is created using the traditional hand-blown glass technique at the Finnish Iittala glassworks, making each bird an original with its own expression and subtle variations that underline its uniqueness. Whip-Poor-Will has a playful yet sophisticated feel – a small glass sculpture that can enliven a modern interior and add character to it. It also works great as a collector’s item or a special gift.
The Birds by Toikka collection began in 1972, when Finnish designer Oiva Toikka created the first series of glass birds at the Nuutajärvi glassworks. Since then, hundreds of different designs have been created and the collection has become an icon of Finnish design around the world. Each bird is original – created by hand and reflecting both Toikko's boundless imagination and the mastery of the glassmakers who bring his designs to life.
