Brand: Pahkataide

Design: Marko Jäntti

The Finnish kuksa is a traditional wooden mug of the Lappish Sámi. This kuksa was made in a small workshop by Marko Jäntti, and each piece is original thanks to the handwork and specific structure of curly birch wood. The mug has a handle decorated with a subtle motif of reindeer on a Nordic pasture. The leather loop allows you to hang it on a backpack, belt or anywhere else you will have the kuksa at hand.

You can enjoy hot and cold drinks from it and it requires minimal maintenance. It is suitable not only for sipping your morning coffee, but also for trips, hikes or camping. Moreover, it has also been tested by the harsh Nordic nature and, if treated properly, will easily last you a lifetime.

Few mugs fit so nicely in your hand. Compared to ceramic ones, kuksa has several advantages. It doesn't break easily, it's lighter, and the wood also insulates perfectly . This keeps the contents at the right temperature for longer and you won't burn yourself on the mug.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
The kuksa is rinsed with cold water and acquires a natural patina with use. Do not use for alcoholic beverages, which dry out the wood and could crack over time. Do not use chemicals and do not wash in the dishwasher. Before using it for the first time, do not forget the traditional ritual. Pour hot coffee (not boiling) into the kuksa for a few minutes, pour it out and let it rest for a few hours. Prepare a warm coffee grinder, preferably from coarsely ground coffee, and then scrub the kuksa from the inside with it. Marko Jäntti recommends using the kuksa daily for a month without washing it much, so that a sufficient fat layer forms inside, which protects the kuksa and prevents flavors from penetrating the wood.

MADE IN FINLAND
Kuksu is handmade by Marko Jäntti in the village of Vaajakoski in Finland.

MARKO JÄNTTI
We searched for a long time in Finland for the right manufacturer, because no kuksa is the same as another. We didn't want industrial mass production, but honest handwork. Years of experience and typical curly birch wood. Marko Jäntti fulfills everything down to the last detail and the kuksa from his workshop are exactly what we imagined.
